USING THE TOOL

Word & character counter, explained.

  1. Paste the text you want to measure.
  2. Select its language and your preferred reading speed.
  3. Count the text to see words, characters, paragraphs and a reading estimate.

Words and character clusters use your browser’s Unicode segmentation. Punctuation alone is not a word; numbers can count as words. An emoji family can be one character cluster but several Unicode code points. UTF-16 units and UTF-8 bytes are reported separately because websites count length differently. Reading time is a simple estimate, not a language-specific assessment.

Why does another counter show a different result?

Counters use different rules for hyphens, apostrophes, emoji and languages without spaces. Choose the correct language and use the measurement required by your destination.
